Black Dragon Press x Mondo: THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS

We’re so excited to continue our Black Dragon Press partnership with a brand new poster for Kenneth Grahame’s THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS by the brilliant Peter Diamond. This poster will be available in two versions tomorrow (9/20): UK Red Variant (on sale tomorrow at 5PM UK time from the Black Dragon Press shop) and the US Sepia Variant (available at a random time via

“I fought with this one a lot, more maybe than anything else I’ve made. But I’m happy I persisted, this ornery bastard has ended up being pretty special to me," said artist Peter Diamond.

"My impression of these characters and this story going into this turned out to be very different from what I came away with after reading the novel. I was broadly familiar with The Wind In The Willows from various adaptations and had certainly seen enough Willows art to have a pretty strong idea of what this thing was about: idyllic English scenery, cute animals in tweed, the toad being a bit loopy..."

"But Toad’s not just a bit loopy, he’s truly sick. He’s charming and funny, sure, but in that very sad way perhaps only a person in the depths of addiction can be. His great source of joy and purpose is also a fatal menace to himself and those around him, and it wreaks havoc on his life."

"I wanted to get at some of that in the drawing, how the book goes in these two directions simultaneously. The characters were to stay tweedy and cuddly, but the image should be somehow chaotic and confusing. I wanted to show him plunging into oblivion and soaring like a bird at the same time. And I did all I could to draw you into those unhinged but ecstatic toady eyes.”

THOUGHT BUBBLE 2017: E.T., The Big Boss & Young Animal!

Next week we’ll be visiting our friends over in Leeds exhibiting at one of our favorite conventions in the world  - and one that provided an excellent blueprint for how we wanted MondoCon to feel - THOUGHT BUBBLE! You can find us at the Leeds Town Hall Marquee, Tables 52 & 53.

We’ll have a handful of new releases at our table that we’re really excited about including the variant version of Jonathan Burton’s gorgeous poster for E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL. We’ll also be premiering the variant version of our poster for THE BIG BOSS by Jock, a follow-up to his ENTER THE DRAGON poster from MondoCon 2016. The variant will be available at our table, while the regular version will be available online on Saturday (9/23).

We have some very exciting news to share. Currently there is an absolutely amazing collection of comics being released under the umbrella of Young Animal, an imprint of DC Comics. These books are DOOM PATROL, SHADE THE CHANGING GIRL, CAVE CARSON HAS A CYBERNETIC EYE, and MOTHER PANIC. The imprint - driven and curated by Gerard Way - is totally unlike anything else on comic stands right now. We are huge fans of what the folks over at Young Animal have been creating over the last 12 months and were eager to partner up for a collaboration of sorts. We reached out and were very much happy to hear the feeling was mutual, so we worked together to create variant cover artwork for the four core titles. These covers are now starting to hit comic stands with Matt Taylor's stunning art for Shade currently in stores.

In celebration of Young Animal's 1-year anniversary this September, we will have silkscreen posters for all four of the titles available at Thought Bubble featuring DOOM PATROL by Tula Lotay, SHADE THE CHANGING GIRL by Matt Taylor, CAVE CARSON HAS A CYBERNETIC EYE by Rosemary Valero-O’Connell and MOTHER PANIC by Jay Shaw. Several of the YA creative powers will be in attendance at Thought Bubble, so definitely stop by and say hi — and read the books! Seriously, they’re amazing.

We can’t wait to get out there next week and look forward to seeing all our UK friends and family.

OVER THE GARDEN WALL: Posters, Pins + "For Sara" Cassette!

Tomorrow we're traveling back to The Unknown with a product release celebrating Cartoon Network's fantastic Emmy Award-winning mini-series, OVER THE GARDEN WALL.

Back in September 2015, we released the "For Sara" cassette, Wirt's analog love letter to his crush Sara (a heartfelt mix of poetry and clarinet). Due to popular demand we've produced a second edition (we are dubbing the "Backup Master"), available Friday (9/15) at 12PM (CT) via It features the same 20+ minutes of material produced for the original cassette, performed by the show's original composers, The Blasting Company, with the voice of Elijah Wood. You can read a bit about the project here.

Additionally, we'll have a pair of fantastic posters from George Bletsis and Sam Wolfe Connelly (who also did the artwork on our vinyl soundtrack release), along with a set of adorable enamel pins featuring your favorite characters from the show.

"To me, OVER THE GARDEN WALL has some of the most established tones of the eerie, endearing, and unexplored for any cartoon I've seen. The world where Wirt and Greg find themselves adventuring is so well composed that it feels like a visual novel where anything can happen. I wanted to capture that same atmosphere for the poster and really stay true to the show's tagline 'into the unknown...' where you don't know what lies ahead, but you won't pass up the chance to seek it out." - Sam Wolfe Connelly

"I loved OVER THE GARDEN WALL from the very first episode - it reminded me of the offbeat cartoons that were always my favourites growing up. I have tried to stay true to the brilliant character designs, but have added my own spin so that the poster feels fresh and doesn't lean on the show too heavily. I also wanted to play on that vintage feel, so the colour palette is inspired by looking at old  Russian children's book illustrations." - George Bletsis

If you're in the LA area, be sure to stop by Gallery Nucleus' event this Saturday (9/16) in celebration of the new book ART OF OVER THE GARDEN WALL. Creator Patrick McHale will be there, along with and various musical talents - we're so bummed we're missing it! Learn more here.
