All the Flowers at My Funeral: A Note from Sonny Day

Hi everyone!

Super pumped to be back in Austin and blown away by everyone's response to the idea behind All the Flowers at My Funeral.

I just wanted to write a quick note for those planning to attend (That's you, right? You’re coming, right? Please tell your friends about this show).

The shows opening a little earlier this time, 6PM.
In regards to funeral attire for the opening, this is entirely up to you.
But if that's not your bag or it's in the hundreds, simply wear your favourite band t-shirt.
The idea of this show is to celebrate life and music, so wear your heart on your t-shirt sleeve as it were.

You are also welcome to bring flowers.
When you enter there will be a small installation where these can be left.
Trust me, it’ll be cool. Morbid but cool.
That's cool right? I don’t know anymore.
Maybe the next show could be called All The Therapists At My Trial (Our Therapist, My Trial).

When you enter the gallery you’ll hear a playlist of songs from my funeral, as you make your way to the courtyard you’ll enter the wake.
This wake is more of a party with the amazing Mo Shafeek on the decks.

So heres the other thing I’d like folks to do if so inclined.
There will be a Spotify playlist created of All the Flowers at My Funeral, we’ll share the link on Friday.
All the works will be numbered as per the track listing.
I would love it for people to create their own playlists to share using the hashtag #alltheflowersatmyfuneral on Facebook and Twitter and Spotify.
We can then all share and enjoy.

Again a massive thanks to everyone at Mondo for letting me bring this to you all.

Sonny Day.

June 2017 Collectibles Update

Brock Otterbacher, Creative Director, Toys & Collectibles

We're all prepping for San Diego Comic-Con, and though it's crazy on all fronts right now, I wanted to come up for air a bit and update everyone with what's going on with a few of our Toy/Collectible products.

Ramona Flowers

Ramona Flowers was supposed to be in hands by now, but was delayed for a few months due to an issue we ran into with the exclusive version (which the vast majority of you ordered). The problem came with the top of Scott's head, in which the seam - which was present in the prototype, but fairly subtle - became more obvious in the samples, like so:

For some reason, the two halves weren't lining up no matter what was tried:

So the decision was made to stop what we were doing, and have the factory re-think the seam. And they did, moving it to go along the hairline, for a much cleaner finish:

When we decide to improve something in a significant way, it often delays production timeline - and we know it's a bummer. In the end, we want to ensure that when you receive your figure, it's the best it can be. We're hoping to have these to you guys in August, early September at the latest.

Oh, and here's a preview of the packaging!

Here are a few more product order updates!

Batman Red Rain Statue

I'm really, really happy with this, and can't wait to get it into your hands and on your shelves. So where is he? He's pretty much done, but we're waiting on final packaging approval. It's been taking extra long due to the busy season, and everyone trying to get everything approved and shipped for the holidays. The packaging layout designed with the help of Francesco Francavilla (using his poster art) and it looks fantastic! Can't wait to share it with you.

TMNT 1/6 Scale Figure

If you ordered Donatello, you should have him in hand by now, or at least, he should be on his way to you. With each turtle, we've been able to make more and more modifications to each as we go along, and your feedback has been truly appreciated.

With Don, we were able to improve some of the paint washes and face mold seams, and with Mikey and Raph, we've changed the head material to make swapping heads really easy. I'm playing with a final production sample of Mikey right now, and I think he's my fav of the figures so far (not that I'm biased, being a big Mikey fan, I swear ;)  ). Expect Mikey in July/Early August (he's already on the boat!), and Raph about a month after. Hoping to have the brothers together by the end of summer.

Aliens Tiki Mugs

If you ordered the Blue or the Hive version, expect them in the next few weeks! If you're wondering about the Xeno Bone version, well, I hope you enjoy beautiful Southern California during a certain weekend in July...

-

We've got a lot of new stuff headed your way! For stuff you've seen at shows, or hinted at online (MOTU and Batman: The Animated Series 1/6 Figures should come to mind), just know that we're working on them behind the scenes a lot, to ensure they get to you faster once you've pre-ordered them.

If you find yourself at San Diego Comic-Con next month, come by the booth (#835) and say hi! And speaking of San Diego - before we let you go, here's a preview of a couple of things we'll be showing next month.

Music Weekly: ABDULLAH, THE BAD BATCH + Distributed Titles!

Hi All - this week we have a very limited repress of the soundtrack to ABDULLAH for folks who missed out on Record Store Day (only 150 pressed for our site!), as well as a reminder about the fantastic THE BAD BATCH release from late last week and few amazing distributed titles for you.

As usual, all new releases go on sale at NOON (CST) on Wednesday.

MONDO
Abdullah - Original Motion Picture Score + DVD. Pressed on 180g Red & Blue Color in Color Vinyl. Includes DVD featuring the short film ABDULLAH housed inside a 425gsm sleeve complete with a download card. One-off repress of 150 copies. $20

We're excited to release a repress of the LP/DVD combo of ABDULLAH, a short film released by Ne'er Do Well Films, for Record Store Day 2017.

Maiovvi’s score is a powerhouse tour de force featuring his signature raw electro sound blended with traditional Turkish structures and instruments. He has managed to create something totally unique; dark disco that is familiar yet alien. It's the perfect follow-up to his last short, YELLOW. We are very proud to highlight ABDULLAH, included here with a bonus DVD shot on 35mm. The film looks magnificent and the dark tale is perfectly suited to Maiovvi’s delirious take on Turkish standards.

Indiewire just premiered the film, and you can check it out here.

Also available on Bandcamp.

DEATH WALTZ
The Bad Batch - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack 2XLP.
Original Artwork by Jay Shaw. Webstore Exclusive: Desert Sand with Psychedelic Swirl Vinyl (Disc 1), Smiley Face Yellow & Black Vinyl (Disc 2). $35

Death Waltz Recording Co., in conjunction with Lakeshore Records, is proud to present the soundtrack to THE BAD BATCH, the sophomore film from Ana Lily Amirpour.

As with Amirpour's debut film, A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT, music is an essential ingredient throughout THE BAD BATCH and it more than lives up to its predecessor's killer soundtrack. This time lines of dialogue from the film are interspersed throughout the songs creating a truly immersive listening experience. The songs themselves run from bona fide pop bangers (Ace of Base and Culture Club), cutting edge techno/electro (Black Light Smoke and Path Du Prince), shimmering electronica (Darkside/Chilled By Nature), through to the classic spaghetti stylings of Death Waltz's own Federale.

The package is rounded out with die-cut artwork by Jay Shaw. He did such a killer job on the A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT record packaging, that it was no brainer we bring him back for this psychedelic mind-expanding record.

Please Note: This is a pre-order. All orders containing this record will not ship until late August 2017.

Our friends at Gamer's Edition are proud to present a very special limited vinyl pressing of the soundtrack to ConcernedApe's hit indie farming game, STARDEW VALLEY.

The high-quality gatefold jacket features all-new artwork by Kari Fry. This first pressing is on double tri-striped vinyl and is limited to 600 copies worldwide.

DISTRIBUTED TITLES
A Ghost Story - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack LP. Released by Milan Records. Pressed on 180 Gram White vinyl with a glow in the dark cover. $23

A GHOST STORY is the new film from director David Lowery (PETE'S DRAGON) starring Casey Affleck (MANCHESTER BY THE SEA) and Rooney Mara (CAROL). In this singular exploration of legacy, love, loss, and the enormity of existence, the movie follows a recently deceased, white-sheeted ghost returning to his suburban home to try and reconnect with his bereft wife.

The score to A GHOST STORY was composed by Lowrey's frequent collaborator Daniel Hart (TUMBLEDOWN). In his most ambitious work yet, Hart has crafted a score that is both astral in sound and cosmic in scope, making the overwhelming fear of eternity feel a little more manageable. “I Get Overwhelmed”, a gorgeous track by Hart’s band Dark Rooms, is treated to a prolonged play in the film and is featured on this release. The compositions created for A GHOST STORY will haunt you long after the final credits have rolled.

DISTRIBUTED TITLES
Seven Sermons
by Missionary Work. Released by DWZ International Records. $15

Incredible under the radar release from the mysterious Missionary Work recalling classic 1970's Italian synth-heavy prog experiments. Recalling the likes of Frizzi, Goblin and Fidenco. Full of storming synth hooks. One of the best records you haven't heard (yet) in 2017!

DISTRIBUTED TITLES
Island of Death - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack LP.
Released by Giallo Disco Records. $14

Here with a special collaboration with Glasgow's infamous At War With False Noise, Giallo Disco and AWWFN are unbelievably proud to present, for the first time on vinyl ever, the elusive soundtrack to one of the most notorious, twisted and downright wrongest video nasties of all time: ISLAND OF DEATH by director Nico Mastorakis. These ultra rare recordings of one Manson-meets-The-Wicker-Man babylonian folk and a "let's cry a river" ballad were the perfect counterpoint for this sleaze masterwork regarding a sex and murder obsessed couple causing havoc on a Greek island. Do not sleep on this. You'd be a fool... in a lye pit.

DISTRIBUTED TITLES
Termination Dust
by Xander Harris. Released by Data Airlines. Limited Edition black regular weight 12″ vinyl with a high-quality 350gsm matte sleeve. $27

With Termination Dust, Xander Harris manages to capture the feeling of a deserted alpine landscape at that moment when there is longer any doubt that fall has gotten the best of the summer. When all the mountain summer tourists are gone and there is only you, your synthesizers and whatever substances you brought with you for miles and miles. Termination Dust sounds like the early works of The Orb, with more analog synths, less samplers, more Alaskan mountains and less Arizona deserts.

We are thrilled to help celebrate NEON's release of the film with a limited edition two-color screenprinted handbill on perforated blotting paper (signed by Ana Lily Amirpour), the soundtrack to the film pressed on colored vinyl, plus a brand new music video from the film featuring Death Waltz Originals artist Federale.

Watch the video for Federale ‘All the Colours of the Dark’ here. Pre-Orders for the soundtrack and handbill go live this Friday at NOON (CST).

Behind-the-Scenes: SPIDER-GWEN STATUE

Brock Otterbacher
Creative Director, Toys & Collectibles

We are incredibly stoked to finally share our Spider-Gwen statue with you. Here's a bit of a walkthrough/history of both the poster and the statue.

As with the other posters-turned-statues we've created, we were excited to get a chance to give the 3D treatment to some of our Marvel screen prints. For the first time, however, we were going to design a poster to be a statue from the start. And for the first character the choice was obvious - Spider-Gwen!

"Spider-Gwen?" Yup! She's great! And there's not enough product out there for her in my humble opinion.

We asked Justin Erickson of Phantom City Creative to join in the fun, and he immediately shot over a bunch of awesome concepts.

What's great about working with Justin is his brain is teeming with ideas, and he offered several more options right away. Bonus points to him for using Poser, a 3D program to help flesh out some of his ideas!

While a lot of these could have worked well for posters, it's quite a challenge to find a pose that works well for both a poster and a statue. We eventually settled on having her perched, which he had in his first round of ideas. Now the question was what she'd be perched on.

We suggested that it would be cool to have her perched on top of a building's spire to give the feeling that she's really extended into the sky, with nothing to keep her company but the city's skyline. Also, having a thin object supporting the character really draws your eyes right to her, in both 2D and 3D.

Here are my terribly rendered notes suggesting such. This is also where we get into the idea of having a switch-out hand, as Marvel felt it was important that the statue not just portray her shooting a selfie, but also a web as it would be a bit more action-oriented.

Here's a rough from Justin:

And a few more suggestions on pose, getting closer to the final poster:

And the final poster! Love this piece, especially Justin's choice of color:

For the statue, we needed a bit more design work to figure out what the spire was connected to and what this pose looked like from a 360-degree view to help guide the sculptor. Eric Siebenaler came in to nail down the design, doing a full render front and back of her slinging a web (since the poster only shows her shooting a selfie), as well as designing a cool art deco style structure for the statue to sit on.

Next, we moved the piece over to Nathan Mansfield to sculpt. At this point we decided to add Gwen's backpack to the back of the base as a fun nod to her band, The Mary Janes. In addition to this, we added an unmasked head as the Mondo Exclusive. One of the exciting things about these projects is that they're being designed and refined all throughout the process.

Once Nathan was done, we had the always-awesome Jason Wires and his team print the digital model along with Simon Garcia's amazing molding and casting job. To finish it off, we called in Mara Ancheta to add some paint magic to it. Note the magenta shading here and there as a subtle nod to the poster's original color theme.

And the final piece!

Pre-Order and view more photos of the statue here.

Special thanks to Rob Jones and Eric Garza for letting us toy boys and girls play in the poster world. More to come in this line! We have MILES to go... ;)

Music Weekly: SUPER CASTLEVANIA IV

Hi all - this week, in anticipation of the newly announced Netflix Original Series, we will be releasing the next chapter in our ongoing CASTLEVANIA soundtrack series! It's one of our favorites of the series, and quite possibly one of our favorite video game soundtrack of all time: the Super Nintendo classic SUPER CASTLEVANIA IV. We will also have a re-stock of our previous release CASLTEVANIA III: DRACULA'S CURSE back on the site.

As usual, new releases and re-stocks go on sale Wednesdays at NOON (CST).

MONDO
Super Castlevania IV - Original Video Game Soundtrack 2XLP. Music by Konami Kukeiha Club. Artwork by Jenolab. Pressed on 2x 180 Gram Bronze and Gold Split Vinyl (Limited to 1,000 Copies) - or - 2x 180 Gram Silver with Red Splatter. $30

Mondo is proud to present the premiere vinyl soundtrack to Simon Belmont's first 16-Bit adventure, the 1991 SNES classic SUPER CASTLEVANIA IV.

SUPER CASTLEVANIA IV, technically a remake of the first CASTLEVANIA game, puts you back into boots of vampire hunter Simon Belmont. But if the first CASTLEVANIA soundtrack was like a band’s debut garage album, SUPER CASTLEVANIA IV is where they finally got into a major recording studio and fully fleshed out their sonic ambitions.

The Super Nintendo’s sound chip brought the franchise into the world of synth for the first time. It allowed Konami’s composers to use audio samples to achieve an instrumentation previously unattainable on earlier systems. From the moment SUPER CASTLEVANIA IV begins you can hear the difference, with synthesized samples of organs and chiming bells, that set a more cinematic tone for Simon’s quest to fell the devil’s castle.

But it's not all graveyards and fog; by the time you arrive at the fourth track on the album, "Simon Belmont's Theme," you reach the new gold standard for the music of CASTLEVANIA. And when you get to Track 8, "Mechanical Trick Castle," you are hearing Konami Kukeiha Club at its absolute finest, producing epic, bombastic score with prog rock elements that would remain the backbone of the franchise for years to come.

Remastered for vinyl and cut at 45RPM across two heavyweight LPs with beautiful original artwork by Jenolab, the soundtrack to SUPER CASTLEVANIA IV is essential video game music.

BACK IN STOCK

MONDO
Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse - Original Video Game Soundtrack 2XLP. Artwork by Sachin Teng. Pressed on 2x 180 Gram Black Vinyl. Featuring BOTH the NES and FAMICOM versions of all 28 BGM tracks from the game spread across two 12" LPs. $30

CASTLEVANIA III: DRACULA'S CURSE is a dark horse for most beloved of the original NES / FAMICOM trilogy. The soundtrack is important not only for fan-favorite track 'Beginning' - one you'd be nary to find excluded from any future CASTLEVANIA game - but for the dynamic audio introduced on the Japanese version of the game. The VRC6 Audio chip contained the Japanese version allowed for a wider array of sound channels, producing a brighter, fuller soundtrack than on the cartridge released in the US. The Nintendo Entertainment System could not process this level of audio, so the version released in the US needed to have the audio scaled back. Despite this audio handicap the US version is still terrific, and the superiority of the which version best is still a matter of debate to this day. No need to choose though, since Mondo's vinyl re-issue contains both, spread across two 12" LPs, housed in a gatefold jacket featuring amazing new artwork by Sachin Teng.
